"there is no more crucial time for the legal profession to come together"
As the Chair of the IBA Section on Business Law, it gives me great pleasure to invite you to the IBA's 2003 Conference in San Francisco.
A decade has passed since the IBA last held its Annual Conference in the United States, and these ten years have seen huge social, political, economic and technological transitions, as globalisation has made its impact. Today there is no more crucial time for the legal profession to come together to debate the important issues involved. San Francisco, as a cross-roads between the United States, Latin America and Asia provides the perfect location to do so.
The IBA's unique position representing all facets of the international legal profession provides an opportunity for the Association to respond to the ever-changing environment within which we work. Our commitment to respond is clearly demonstrated through our Showcase sessions (click here for details), and the wide- range of subjects covered by the Association's 56 specialist Committees, each of which addresses crucial developments in different areas of the law.
Over 3,000 leading lawyers from the world's major jurisdictions will participate in the Conference. Attendees can expect to receive the most up to date, substantive information relating to cross-border practice of law from some of the most recognised and highly respected experts in their fields.
Attendance at this Conference should not be missed and I urge you to take five minutes to review the programme content in the following pages.
I look forward to welcoming you to San Francisco.

Chair, IBA Section on Business Law
